Principal’s Welcome

Principal’s Message

Kia ora koutou, Greetings to our school families,

I have had the privilege of joining and leading Parakai School since 2018. I immediately fell in love with our school children and warm community who are incredibly supportive and caring of the school team serving our children. We acknowledge tangata Whenua and prioritize Māori success and success for all learners, including our team, parents, and caregivers.  We are all growing and learning together as one big whānau. Our children’s success depends on us being on one page.

From when I was little, my dad always told me that I’d be a school principal because I used to play the school teacher with my two sisters. As a mother of two grown, fine young men, I know the importance of making young children feel valued and supported by strong adults who set clear boundaries and opportunities for success. Now I get to care for and provide opportunities for your children to be the best version of themselves. Every morning when I arrive at school with Mia, our school dog, I spend the first part of my day walking around the school and connecting with the children before their day begins.  The children bring us energy and motivation.

Our dedicated and caring team of teachers, teacher aides, and admin staff are lifelong learners who always seek opportunities to increase their understanding of student’s needs and potential.  We encourage all parents and caregivers to see themselves as part of OUR Parakai School family and take an active role in the life of the school. There is no need to wait for an invitation. The day your child starts school, you start contributing to the life of the school. Our open door policy means that we thrive when home and school share even little successes and collaborate respectfully and swiftly when the need arises.

Here’s to partnering with you to build GREAT citizens who will Dream it, Believe it, Work hard at it, and Achieve it!

HE AHA TE MEA NUI O TE AO?
HE TANGATA, HE TANGATA , HE TANGATA.
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THE WORLD?
IT IS PEOPLE, IT IS PEOPLE, IT IS PEOPLE.

Ngā mihi nui,

Vision

Over the years, we explicitly designed and refined our curriculum around our strong, shared vision

To grow GREAT citizens, empowered to live successfully in their personal and global lives.”

Our Motto is “Dream it, Believe it, Work hard at it and Achieve it”.  There is no fluffy duffy in our motto. We teach our beautiful learners that nothing comes without hard work. Parents are coached on how to support their children to build on prior knowledge and how to support current social, emotional, and learning goals so that we all share and celebrate our children’s success.

Open-door communication means that from the first time that parents and caregivers meet with the principal to share what their child brings, we start a partnership dedicated to supporting excellence, equity, and progress. Parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers at least once a term.  This can be via email, phone, face time, or in person, sharing celebrations and collaborating on support.

The vision to build Great Citizens is supported by Weekly Positive Start assemblies where values are unpacked,  success is celebrated across the school, and opportunities are shared, be it in sports or lunchtime options, etc.

Teachers send out regular flicks (communication) so that parents and caregivers are kept up to date with learning, tips, and reminders. Fortnightly newsletters keep the community informed about upcoming events and celebrate the life of our beautiful school.

Facebook posts are also used to celebrate and inform the community about events.

Our Vision is a shared commitment. Stay connected.

Together we achieve more in raising GREAT citizens!
